Sanguem, Feb 25: The incomplete portion of the Sanguem Town Hall, which had been left in a precarious condition since December 2024, has finally been demolished by the contractor.

The action came after a report by The Goan highlighted the risk posed to pedestrians and vehicles parked near the structure. Following this, a joint meeting of the Sanguem Municipal Council, the contractor, and electricity department officials was convened on February 20.

During the meeting, the contractor expressed concerns over the demolition, citing the close proximity (one metre) of an electricity transformer. He requested the electricity department to temporarily relocate the transformer to ensure safe demolition.

The department responded by shifting the transformer onto a trolley, clearing the way for the final demolition of the remaining structure on Monday.

Residents, who had been worried about potential accidents, have now heaved a sigh of relief with the completion of the demolition process.
