Governor assures action on alleged Goa University question paper leak

Panaji, Mar 19: Goa Governor and University Chancellor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai has assured the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Goa Unit and the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) that the alleged question paper leak at Goa University is being taken seriously.

The assurance followed a formal memorandum submitted by NSUI Goa Unit Chief Naushad Chowdhari and IYC representatives, demanding a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident. Chowdhari criticized the university’s internal fact-finding committee, questioning its credibility and calling for the immediate dismissal of the professor allegedly involved in the leak. He also sought action against university officials accused of covering up the matter.

“This scandal has been buried for months, raising concerns about corruption, nepotism, and a lack of accountability within the institution,” Chowdhari said, adding that such incidents damage the university’s reputation and put students' futures at risk.

On Monday, Goa University Vice-Chancellor Harilal Menon appointed a fact-finding committee to probe the allegations, setting a 48-hour deadline for submitting its report. However, NSUI has rejected the move, calling for an independent investigation by a neutral body to ensure transparency.

The students' union has also urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who holds the education portfolio, to clarify his position on the controversy.

“If authorities fail to take appropriate action, we will be left with no choice but to escalate our protest to safeguard students’ rights and restore integrity in Goa University,” warned Chowdhari.
