Mangaluru, Mar 21: A case has been registered at the CEN police station after a man lost Rs 76,32,145 by falling prey to a stock market investment scam on Telegram.

According to the complaint, the victim was contacted on Telegram in December last year by a person named Sagarika Agarwal, who introduced him to stock market investments promising good returns. She later sent a link via WhatsApp, instructing him to create a login.

Initially, the victim invested Rs 27,600 and was able to withdraw a small profit. Encouraged by this, he was lured into investing larger amounts with the promise of higher returns. Between December and March 11, he ended up investing a total of Rs 76,32,145.

When the alleged returns on his investment reached Rs 1,36,00,000, he requested a withdrawal, but the fraudsters informed him that the amount could not be refunded. Following this, he filed a complaint with the police.

How to stay safe?

Vigilance is the key to avoiding such scams. If you receive such calls, never fall for the trap. Remember, police officials never initiate cases online or ask for money.

Most importantly, the term “digital arrest” is fabricated by scammers and does not exist in Indian law. If someone threatens you with it, it is undoubtedly a scam.

Additionally, never share bank details, OTPs, or other sensitive information over phone calls or messages, regardless of the caller’s claims. If you suspect a scam, report it to the authorities and your bank immediately. Quick action can help prevent further losses.
