Udupi: Malpe police arrest accused in mobile handset snatching incident

Udupi, March 24: Malpe police have arrested an individual in connection with a mobile phone handset snatching incident that took place in Santhekatte, under its police station limits.

The incident occurred on March 21, when Saraswati (21), a resident of Bagalkote district, was walking along the Kelarkalabetu-Santhekatte road with her child after visiting her mother’s house in Kelarkalabetu.

She was on her way to a doctor’s clinic in Santhekatte when the crime took place. As she approached the house of one Shankar Suvarna, an unidentified man on a motorcycle approached her from behind.

The accused then forcibly snatched a bag from Saraswati’s hand, which contained a mobile phone and a purse with Rs 2,500 in cash. After the robbery, the accused fled in the direction of Kemmannu.

Following Saraswati’s complaint, Malpe police registered a case and promptly initiated an investigation. The police team, led by sub-inspector Ravi, arrested the accused, identified as Darshan Kumar from Thottam, Malpe.

Upon his arrest, the police recovered the stolen items, including a Redmi mobile phone worth approximately Rs 13,000, Rs 2,500 in cash, and a lady's purse.

Further investigation is ongoing.
