Karkala, March 25: In a breakthrough in a series of school and college thefts across Karkala taluk, the police have arrested the accused and recovered stolen property, including a car, a mobile phone, and cash amounting to Rs 84,500.
The accused, identified as Arshit Avinash Dodre (24), a resident of Yojana Nagar, Byndoor, confessed to his involvement in the thefts.
Between February 21 and 22, 2025, unidentified thieves broke into St. Joseph English Medium School in Belman, Karkala taluk, by breaking the office door lock. They forced open office cupboards and drawers, stealing approximately Rs 1,50,000 in cash and three DVR units.
The CCTV system of the school was also vandalised. A case was registered at the Karkala Rural Police Station.
Similarly, between March 6 and 7, 2025, unknown culprits broke into the headmaster’s office of S.H.P. School in Nandalike village, Karkala taluk. They ransacked cupboards and registers, and a case was filed at Karkala Rural Police Station.
Further, between March 4 and 5, 2025, thieves forcibly entered the office of St Maria Goretti English Medium School in Hirgan village, Karkala taluk. They broke open cupboard locks, stealing Rs 60,000 in cash and a CCTV DVR unit worth Rs 5,000. The case was registered at the Karkala Town Police Station.
On March 20, while investigating a suspicious white car near St Lawrence School in Nitte village, the investigative team apprehended a suspect. Upon questioning, the suspect was identified as Arshit Avinash Dodre, and he confessed to his involvement in the thefts.
The arrest was made under the leadership of Karkala circle inspector Manjappa D R, with a team comprising PSI Shivakumar from Karkala Town police station, officers Ranjith and Shivanand from Karkala Rural police station, and officers Satish and Pradeep from Ajekaru police station.
The police seized a Ritz car, valued at approximately Rs 2,00,000, a mobile phone handset worth Rs. 20,000, and cash totalling Rs 84,500. After interrogation, the accused was presented before the honourable court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.
