New Delhi, Mar 27: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) that sought an independent investigation into Karnataka Minister for Cooperation K N Rajanna’s allegations of a honey trap attempt against him.
A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Karol, and Sandeep Mehta refused to entertain the plea, questioning how a petitioner from outside Karnataka had standing in the matter. The PIL sought a probe either under Supreme Court supervision or by a retired apex court judge.

Rajanna’s explosive claim, made in the Karnataka Assembly last week, alleged that he was a victim of a honey trap and that over 48 politicians across the state and the country had been similarly targeted. His statement triggered political turmoil, with the opposition BJP demanding a thorough investigation.
Following the controversy, Karnataka home minister G Parameshwara assured that a high-level probe would be launched once Rajanna formally submitted a complaint. However, on Monday, Parameshwara stated that no complaint had been received yet, making it impossible for authorities to proceed with any legal action.
The matter sparked heated debates in the Karnataka Assembly, culminating in dramatic scenes as BJP legislator N Muniratna accused deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar of orchestrating the alleged honey trap network. The tensions escalated further when 18 BJP MLAs were suspended for six months for disrupting proceedings while demanding a judicial or CBI probe into the scandal.
The BJP has strongly criticized the Congress-led government for suspending its legislators, arguing that their demand for justice was unfairly silenced. The controversy continues to stir political tensions in the state.
