Mumbai, Apr 15: Bollywood actress Shweta Tripathi Sharma, known for her distinctive roles and quirky sense of style, recently opened up about how attending a fashion institute helped transform her approach to life, style, and self-expression.

Speaking to IANS, the "Masaan" actress shared, “Fashion is one thing, but design excites me even more—because that’s what I studied. Going to NIFT really changed my life and the way I look at so many things.”

Shweta, who holds a degree in Fashion Communication from the prestigious National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), said that while she enjoys observing trends, she doesn’t feel bound to follow them.

“I definitely like to see what’s trending, but I don’t stress about it. Just because something is in fashion doesn’t mean I must wear it. If it appeals to me, I might give it a try. But I don’t pressure myself,” she said.

The actress, who began her career in the industry as a production assistant and associate director, emphasized that she experiments with fashion on her own terms. “If I try something new, it’s because I want to, not because I feel compelled to.”

She added that even when she doesn’t follow a trend herself, she often shares ideas with her friends and family. “If I see something I think would look amazing on someone like Mallika Dua or my mother-in-law, I’ll share it with them.”

Shweta, who has won hearts with performances in series like Mirzapur and Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein, believes her profession encourages sartorial experimentation. “As actors, we get to live so many characters. Golu’s style in Mirzapur or Shikha in Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein is nothing like mine, but exploring those styles is fun. Trends also give me creative ideas for characters.”

Expressing her love for timeless fashion, she remarked, “Classics are classics for a reason. But at the end of the day, I don’t follow fashion blindly. I wear what I love and what I feel comfortable in. That’s my style mantra—I need to feel like myself.”

Shweta’s candid reflection is a reminder that personal style goes beyond fleeting trends, grounded in individuality and self-confidence.
