Panaji, Apr 15: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday announced that the Goa government is considering the long-standing proposal to provide a Fire Risk Allowance to firefighters and officers from this financial year.

Speaking at the National Fire Service Day event at the Fire Force Training Ground, CM Sawant emphasized Goa’s leadership in disaster preparedness, stating that the state is the first to have built 11 multipurpose cyclone shelters with financial assistance of Rs 340 cr from the Centre. These shelters will play a vital role in long-term disaster management.

Sawant also praised the Fire and Emergency Services for their exemplary service, citing that in the past year alone, personnel saved property worth Rs 44 cr and rescued 398 lives from fire-related and other accidents.

He urged industrial units to secure fire safety certificates, highlighting that compliance with fire safety norms is a necessary step for public safety and not a form of harassment.

Additionally, Sawant informed that 350 Aapda Mitras and Aapda Sakhis have been trained to assist in emergency situations across the state.
