Basilica of Bom Jesus closed for tourists during Holy Week

Goa, Apr 16: The Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa will remain closed for tourists and visitors starting from Thursday morning (April 17) until 11 am on Sunday (April 20) due to religious services held during the Holy Week Triduum.

Fr Patricio Fernandes, SJ, the Rector of the Basilica, announced that the church will be conducting various liturgical services during this sacred period. All the services will be held in English.

Here is the schedule for the Holy Week Triduum:

• Maundy Thursday (April 17): The Lord's Supper service begins at 5 pm.

• Good Friday (April 18): The Passion of the Lord service starts at 3 pm, with devotions earlier in the day, including:

o The Way of the Cross at 10 am

o The Three-Hour Agony at 12 pm

o The Divine Mercy Novena

• Holy Saturday (April 19): The "Mater Dolorosa" devotion will take place at 10 am, followed by the Easter Vigil at 11.30 pm.

• Easter Sunday (April 21): Mass services will be held at 7 am, 8 am (in Konkani), and 9.15 am (in English).

This closure is part of the religious observance of Holy Week, and visitors are advised to plan their visit accordingly
