Tokyo, Apr 20: Fans of the Star Wars galaxy have a new reason to celebrate as actor Hayden Christensen is officially set to reprise his iconic role as Anakin Skywalker in season 2 of the hit Disney+ series Ahsoka. The announcement came straight from the actor during the Star Wars Celebration event held in Tokyo, as reported by Variety.
Christensen, who famously portrayed the brooding Jedi-turned-Sith Lord in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith (2005), surprised attendees by joining series star Rosario Dawson, creator Dave Filoni, and executive producer Jon Favreau onstage during a panel discussion. Holding back his big reveal until the final moments, Christensen simply said, “There’s not much I can share, but Anakin will be back for season two.”

The actor's return deepens his recent re-entry into the Star Wars saga, following his appearances in Obi-Wan Kenobi and season 1 of Ahsoka, where he featured in two critically acclaimed episodes. His return marks a continuation of his evolving portrayal of Anakin, including scenes that blend his prequel-era persona with the haunting presence of Darth Vader.
Filoni, who also created the 2008 animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, addressed concerns about revisiting Anakin’s arc. He was clear that the original character journey, crafted by franchise creator George Lucas, remains untouched.
“Anakin’s story was already told. George did that,” Filoni said. “What George did is what he wanted and it’s perfect. The story I’m telling is about Ahsoka. The reason why Anakin can be in this is because he’s relative to her story. But I’m very careful in what I’m doing so that I’m not changing or adjusting anything that George did.”
With Christensen’s confirmed return and Filoni’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the original trilogy and prequels, Ahsoka Season 2 is shaping up to be a thrilling extension of the galaxy far, far away—one that continues to explore the emotional legacy of Anakin Skywalker through the eyes of his former apprentice.
