India’s broadband and mobile markets continue upward trend

New Delhi, Apr 24: India’s broadband subscriber base reached 944.04?million at the end of February 2025, according to data from 1,189 operators. In the same month, 12.06?million users submitted Mobile Number Portability requests, taking the cumulative tally to 1,105.39?million since MNP’s inception.

Total telephone connections grew from 1,192.03?million in January to 1,197.23?million in February, a monthly increase of 0.42?percent.

Private mobile operators continue to dominate, holding 92.03?percent of the wireless market, while BSNL and MTNL together account for 7.97?percent. Urban subscriptions rose from 663.83?million to 667.93?million, and rural subscriptions from 528.20?million to 529.31?million. Overall tele-density edged up from 84.54?percent to 84.85?percent, with urban tele-density climbing to 132.01?percent and rural to 58.48?percent. Urban users now represent 55.79?percent of total connections, while rural users make up 44.21?percent.

Machine-to-machine (M2M) cellular connections increased from 63.09?million to 64.71?million. Bharti?Airtel leads this segment with 33.86?million connections, or 52.33?percent market share, followed by Vodafone?Idea. These trends reflect India’s ongoing expansion in digital and wireless infrastructure.
