Mangaluru, May 6: In connection with the murder of Ashraf from Pulpally, Kerala—who was allegedly killed during a group assault at a cricket match in Kudupu—police have intensified the investigation and are now collecting crucial information from various locations in Kerala.

Ashraf, a resident of Pulpally in Wayanad district, was reportedly mentally ill. His family stated that he began receiving treatment while studying in class 9. To verify this, a Mangaluru city police team visited a psychiatric hospital in Paingulam, Thodupuzha, in Idukki district, where Ashraf had received treatment. The team also visited a mental health centre in Vettam, Malappuram district, where he was reportedly treated initially.

Screen grab from CCTV footage

Ashraf’s family mentioned that he earned a living in Mangaluru by collecting and selling scrap materials. CCTV footage from shops that buy scrap materials was reviewed by the police, reportedly yielding significant leads.

In one of the video clips, Ashraf is seen delivering materials to a shop. His brother, Abdul Jabbar, who was in Mangaluru on May 4 and 5, confirmed that the person seen in the footage was indeed Ashraf. The videos also show him unloading the scrap inside the shop and later walking away carrying empty gunny bags.

The police have seized a total of 18 mobile phones from the arrested suspects. These devices have been sent to a forensic lab for data extraction and analysis.

Additionally, statements have been recorded from five individuals identified as witnesses, police sources confirmed.
