Mumbai, May 15: Filmmaker duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., fondly known as Raj & DK, took a nostalgic trip down memory lane on Wednesday as their debut Hindi feature film ‘99’ clocked 16 years since its release.

Sharing a heartfelt throwback on Instagram, the creators of The Family Man and Farzi reminisced about their cinematic beginnings — a time, they say, “before streaming, before content, before hashtags... and before we had beards.”

‘99’, a quirky crime comedy released in 2009, starred Kunal Kemmu, Soha Ali Khan, Vinod Khanna, Boman Irani, and Cyrus Broacha. The film, set against the backdrop of the 1999 cricket match-fixing scandal, followed the misadventures of small-time hustlers caught in a web of shady deals and unexpected twists.

In their post, Raj & DK wrote:

“Throwback to the time before streaming, before ‘content’, before hashtags were a thing, and before we had beards. Our first Hindi feature. Our first hustle. Thanks to everyone who took this quirky ride with us! #99TheFilm.”

They also tagged several cast and crew members including @kunalkemmu, @sakpataudi, @boman_irani, @cyrus_broacha, and the late Amit Mistry, paying tribute to those who helped bring their debut vision to life.

Known today as trailblazers of unconventional storytelling, Raj & DK have carved a distinct niche with genre-bending content. From zombie-comedy Go Goa Gone to thriller-drama The Family Man, their filmography has only grown richer.

Their upcoming project, Citadel: Honey Bunny, is a highly anticipated Indian prequel to the global Citadel franchise. Starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in lead roles, the series also features Kay Kay Menon, Simran, and Sikandar Kher.

As ‘99’ completes over a decade and a half, Raj & DK’s throwback serves as a reminder of humble beginnings and the enduring charm of a film that marked the start of one of Hindi cinema’s most dynamic creative partnerships.
