Los Angeles, May 17: Hollywood icon Julia Roberts is grieving the loss of her longtime canine companion, Myrtle, who passed away after nearly two decades with the family.
The 57-year-old actress, best known for her roles in Pretty Woman and Erin Brockovich, shared the news with her 12.8 million Instagram followers. Posting a serene outdoor photo of the beloved rescue dog, Roberts captioned it, "Our Myrtle. A Legend. 2006–2025," adding a crown emoji in tribute.
Roberts adopted Myrtle in 2006, and the pair had been nearly inseparable ever since. Her husband, cinematographer Daniel Moder, also honored the family pet with a touching post, calling Myrtle "the definition of Fierce Loyalty, even if she bit the pizza man once." He signed off his tribute with Myrtle’s full nickname: “RIP Myrtle Von Mertzenberger.”
Myrtle had even shared the spotlight with Roberts, appearing in the 2023 Chopard Loves Cinema campaign. As a global ambassador for the luxury brand, Roberts starred in a digital mini-series directed by James Gray, where Myrtle made a cameo—jumping into her lap during a shoot and offering glimpses of their close bond in behind-the-scenes moments.
Fans poured into the comments of both Julia’s and Daniel’s posts to offer condolences. One follower wrote, “She was a star in Chopard Loves Cinema! I'm sure she had the best life with your family.” Another shared, “May you take the wonder and acclaim you lived with to the rainbow bridge.”
