Ponda, May 18: Goa has transformed from being known as a land of pleasure to a ‘yog Bhoomi’ or land of yoga and devotion, said Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday. Highlighting the state’s rich cultural heritage and ancient temples, Sawant said these have now become a major attraction for tourists visiting the coastal state.

Addressing the ‘Shankhnad Mahotsav’ organised by Sanatan Sanstha in Ponda, the CM said, “In the past, people visited Goa to witness sun, sand, and sea. That has changed now. Tourists are arriving here to experience our rich culture and grand temples.”

Sawant emphasized that Goa is not just ‘bhog bhoomi’ (land of pleasure), but “yog bhoomi” where spirituality and yoga thrive. He referred to Goa as “go-mata bhoomi” and pointed out the presence of Sanatan Sanstha’s ashram in the state.

The Chief Minister praised the temples of Goa as the cleanest and most beautiful, which have become a major draw for visitors. He clarified that the government does not interfere in the management of temples, which are run by local communities preserving age-old traditions.

He lauded Sanatan Sanstha, headquartered in Ramnathi village in North Goa, for raising spiritual awareness and promoting Sanatan Dharma, saying, “People have started coming to Goa for spiritual experiences.”

Goa’s cultural and spiritual landscape is thus becoming an important pillar of its tourism, complementing its famed natural beauty.
