Los Angeles, Jun 1: Pop icon Miley Cyrus, who shot to fame as a teenager in Disney’s Hannah Montana, said she’s always understood how the celebrity business works, thanks to growing up around stars like her father Billy Ray Cyrus and godmother Dolly Parton.
Speaking on The New York Times' The Interview podcast, Miley said, “I've known fame since birth. I already had the handbook because they did the same thing to my dad and Dolly. I understand the business I'm in it's the record business, and I become merchandise.”
Despite her decades-long career, Miley only received her first Grammy in 2024 for her hit song Flowers from her ninth studio album Something Beautiful. Reflecting on her journey, she admitted feeling overlooked in the past. “There were other Disney artists like The Jonas Brothers who got to perform with Stevie Wonder. I never got opportunities like that.”
She added, “It was heartbreaking. My show had been on for years, and I’d worked with legends like Dolly Parton and Vicki Lawrence. Still, I wasn’t called. But the real reward was always the love from millions of fans around the world.”
Cyrus said that while she once sought industry validation, she eventually found peace in knowing her influence shaped a generation. “Their identities were being formed by me — that’s the best kind of recognition.”
