Los Angeles, Jun 1: Hollywood actress Gillian Anderson has candidly shared her perspective on filming intimate scenes, calling them “never a joy” but simply part of an actor’s job.
The 56-year-old star appears alongside Jason Isaacs in the upcoming film The Salt Path, which follows the real-life journey of Raynor and Moth Winn, a couple who embark on an epic trek through the UK after facing serious health issues and homelessness, according to Female First UK.
Anderson described the film’s intimate scenes—such as one in a tent with Isaacs—as an expected part of the acting process, despite their discomfort. “That is something you just expect as an actor,” she told The Sun.
Reflecting on her experiences, Anderson revealed that sex scenes are often among the first scenes filmed, which can make them particularly awkward. “I’ve also done sex scenes on the very first day of working, which is never a joy at any time during filming. So you’re thrown stuff all the time and just show whatever you’re given,” she explained.
Despite the challenges, Anderson said filming with Isaacs was easier thanks to his supportive nature. “Jason makes it very easy,” she said. “He’s very amenable, he’s very likeable. And certainly physically, we feel like we’re speaking the same language, certainly by the end. We feel like our journey is baked into us, and we’re part of the same conversation.”
Anderson also shared that she was deeply moved by Raynor Winn’s memoir and felt an intense desire to portray her on screen. “I read the book and I couldn’t speak for days. I was really profoundly affected by it,” she said. “I think I might have threatened them within an inch of their lives to hire me.”
