Bangalore, Jan 25: Mysore Sandal Millennium, a super premium soap, priced at Rs 720 per piece of 150 gram was launched by the State-owned Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Limited (KS&DL) by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday.
This will be India’s most expensive soap. The present most expensive soap brand sold in India is Mysore Sandal Classic, also produced by KSDL, priced at Rs 75.
Apart from the Chief Minister, Energy and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Minister Shobha Karandlaje, Ports and Fisheries Minister Krishna Palemar and other senior officials were present at the function for the launch of the soap.
''Mysore Sandal Millennium is the first most expensive soap manufactured and sold in India. It is 10 to 12 times more than the most expensive soap available in India,” KS&DL Chairman Shivananda Naik said.
The Millennium soap is produced from exclusive vegetable oils mixed with special conditioners, moisturizers, Vitamin-E, Jojoba-Mimosa and pure sandalwood oil.
The sandalwood oil in the soap improves complexion, moisturizes skin and retains the glow. Hydrolysed Milk Protein, which is high in amino acid helps the skin in hydration and maintaining elasticity.
It also contains Glycerin, which helps prevent skin dehydration and maintain even structure and the pure sandalwood oil is the essence of this product, which helps in relaxation and contains great anti-ageing properties, according to KS&DL deputy general manager (R&D) V S Venkatesh Gowda.
The company has done two years of research to develop the soap and the cost of manufactured is pegged at Rs 7-8 lakh per tonne. The soap was also tested for dermatological studies in India and Paris.
KS&DL plans to sell the soap through five-star hotels, hypermalls, super bazaars and other major stores. It is also planning to market it through government offices and lifestyle stores, Naik said.
The company is also planning to export the soap to the UK, US, Malaysia, West Asia among others, where there is a demand for super premium soaps.
''We have test marketed the Millennium soap in all these countries already and received very good response from buyers from super bazaars there,” KS&DL General Manager (Finance) H M Nataraj said.
KS&DL is aiming at sales of Rs 5 crore to begin with during the next financial year, he said.
