Bengaluru stampede: State govt increases compensation to Rs 25 lac

Bengaluru, June 8: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has directed that the compensation announced for the families of the victims who lost their lives in the stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium be increased from Rs 10 lac to Rs 25 lac each.

"The aim of our government is to ensure that families mourning the loss of their loved ones do not fall into deeper distress due to financial hardship," the Chief Minister said.

The tragic stampede occurred outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the victory celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) following their IPL campaign. Thousands of fans had gathered outside the stadium at the time.

Eleven fans lost their lives in the incident, while more than 47 others sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
