Kasargod, Jun 11: The Manjeshwar police have successfully re-arrested a warrant accused who had escaped from police custody. The accused has been identified as Siddiq Sarik Farhan (29) from Hosabettu.

The incident took place on Monday morning when the accused managed to escape from the lock-up. Initially, there were rumours that he had fled to Mumbai. However, based on specific leads indicating his presence in the Manjeshwar area, police intensified their search and successfully apprehended him.

According to sources, the accused had requested drinking water from the police, and when the officers briefly stepped away to fetch it, he escaped from the lock-up.

Farhan was wanted in connection with a case registered on May 25, 2019, in Kunjathur Thuminadu for allegedly obstructing police duty. During the victory celebrations following the win of Congress candidate Rajmohan Unnithan, a clash had erupted. It is alleged that during this incident, Farhan hurled stones at police personnel, obstructed their duty, and incited violence, leading to a case being filed against him.

A warrant had also been issued for his arrest in the case.
