Indore, Jun 12: In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves across the Malharganj area of Indore, a 65-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her own grandson over a monetary dispute. The accused, identified as Vikas, reportedly strangled his grandmother, Shantibai Kishan Dhananjay, with her saree after a heated altercation, and went on to conceal her body inside a bed box.

According to police officials, the heinous crime unfolded late Tuesday night in Salvi Mohalla, located in Indira Nagar under the jurisdiction of Malharganj police station. Police station in-charge Vedendra Singh Kushwah revealed that the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and had demanded money from his grandmother. When she refused, a quarrel ensued which tragically escalated to murder.

The matter came to light on Wednesday morning when Shantibai’s maternal granddaughter visited the house. Growing concerned after not finding her grandmother at home, she questioned Vikas, who allegedly attempted to mislead both her and her parents. Suspecting foul play, the family immediately informed the police.

A thorough search of the house by police officials led to the shocking discovery of Shantibai’s lifeless body concealed in a bed box. Significantly, Vikas's own child, who was present in the house, reportedly provided crucial information that aided the investigation.

Acting swiftly, police arrested Vikas within hours of the discovery. He is presently in custody and undergoing interrogation. “The accused was in an intoxicated state and turned violent during the argument. The investigation is ongoing,” stated PSI Vedendra Singh Kushwah.
