Mangaluru, June 12: Transfers of police inspectors have begun in the communally sensitive Dakshina Kannada district, following a larger reshuffle ordered by the state government across several districts.
The move comes in the wake of the murder of Abdul Rehman in Mangaluru, after which the state swiftly transferred the police commissioner and the district superintendent of police, appointing senior and strict officers in their place.

In the latest orders, Pramod Kumar, inspector of the Udupi coastal security police, has been appointed as the new inspector of Surathkal police station, replacing Mahesh Prasad. Pramod Kumar is known as a 'super cop' and an efficient officer, having served in several police stations across the district and earned public goodwill.
In the infamous Kudupu mob lynching case that made headlines across the country, Inspector Shivakumar of Mangaluru Rural police station had drawn criticism. He has now been replaced by Gaviraj R P, who was previously serving at the Chikkamagaluru Town police station.
In Mangaluru East (Kadri) police station, inspector Somasekhar was suspended over allegations of collusion with the accused in a multi-crore job fraud case. He has now been replaced by Ananth Padmanabha from the Mangaluru coastal security police.
Meanwhile, across Karnataka, 36 sub-inspectors have been promoted to the rank of circle inspectors. Among them, Nandakumar—known for his efficient service as sub-inspector at Punjalkatte police station—has been promoted and transferred to the office of the deputy superintendent of police (DSB), Mangaluru.
