St Aloysius holds diploma convocation ceremony in district prison

Mangaluru, Jun 13: St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) and District Prison, Mangaluru marked June 12 has a historic day. The day witnessed a unique event not seen in any other prisons in India or the world. In a fitting finale to a 10-month diploma course on ‘Ayurvedic Herbs and Disease Prevention’ organized for prison inmates, 25 successful trainees were awarded diplomas and certificates by St Aloysius (Deemed to be University).

The vice chancellor, Dr Praveen Martis, SJ inaugurated the convocation ceremony inside the prison and said that this venture was very important for the University and he was looking forward to working with the District Prison Authority with more such projects.











The bishop of Mangalore diocese, the Dr Peter Paul Saldanha awarded the diploma certificates to the trainees and congratulated them for their efforts and perseverance to successfully complete this course despite adversities and said this course would be of immense use to them.

The prison superintendent, B Suresh presided over the programme and appreciated the much-needed useful and unique training programme organized by St Aloysius University and thanked the University authorities for making this possible. He congratulated the course coordinator, Prof Edmund Frank for his relentless efforts in successfully organizing this course very professionally.

Dr Ronald Nazareth, registrar of St Aloysius University, Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar of the college and Prof Edmund Frank, course coordinator spoke on the occasion.
