Mangaluru, Jun 13: A progress review meeting was held at the Mangaluru city police commissioner’s office today, focusing on law and order across the four districts of the western range. Senior police officials issued directives to enforce stringent measures on various fronts.

Addressing the growing threat of narcotics, officers were instructed to intensify surveillance on drug networks and take firm legal action against traffickers.

Concerns were also raised about the rising violations of traffic rules, especially cases involving minors below 18 years operating vehicles—often resulting in fatal accidents. Officials were asked to carry out awareness drives alongside enforcement action to prevent such incidents.

The meeting emphasised zero tolerance towards crimes against women, children, and members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Police were directed to ensure that accused persons do not evade justice and to present strong evidence in court to secure convictions. Additionally, officers were reminded to listen to and protect complainants who come to the station with grievances.

The meeting was chaired by director general and inspector general of police Dr M A Saleem. Also present were inspector general of police (western range) Amit Singh, Mangaluru police commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy, DCP Siddharth Goyal, Dakshina Kannada SP Dr Arun K, Chikkamagaluru SP Vikram Amte, Uttara Kannada SP Narayan, and Udupi SP Hariram Shankar.
