Media Release

Mangaluru, June 17: Carmel School, celebrated a morning filled with promise, responsibility, and honour as it hosted the investiture ceremony on June 17. This solemn event officially welcomed the newly elected student cabinet, embarking on their mission to serve the institution with integrity and commitment.

The ceremony opened with words that echoed the school’s philosophy leaders are not defined by titles, but by the impact they make, the values they uphold, and the change they inspire. The gathering began with an invocation for divine guidance, followed by a prayer service led by grade 10 students. The tranquil atmosphere invited everyone to pause in gratitude and reflection.

Kavitha Shastri, SFA trainer, former Lions District Governor, and a cherished educator of Carmel School, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Principal Sr Rose Vera extended a floral welcome to her, acknowledging her exemplary journey and enduring connection with the school. A spirited welcome dance soon followed, expressing joy and reverence for all those present.

Next, a melodious song highlighted the noble traits of leadership selflessness, empathy, strength, and vision. A compelling skit then illustrated how value-based leadership influences lives. The performance underscored the idea that a leader does not wait for storms to pass but moves forward with purpose; one who celebrates others, leads by example, upholds honesty, and walks with courage and conviction.

The Leaders’ March captured the audience’s attention as the newly appointed representatives stepped forward with confidence and pride. Their steady stride symbolised discipline and readiness to embrace responsibility. The principal and vice principal, took their places on stage as Prathibha, Cabinet incharge, read out each leader’s portfolio with clarity and poise.

This was followed by the badge-pinning ceremony, where each young leader received an emblem of trust and accountability. Another significant moment was the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by chief guest Shastri, Sr Rose Vera (Principal), Dr Sr Prem (administrator), Sr Premal (vice principal), and Zeena - cabinet incharge. The glowing flames stood as symbols of enlightenment, wisdom, and the enduring power of truth meant to inspire each leader on their journey ahead.

To gauge their readiness, the principal engaged the student council with thoughtful questions, prompting them to reflect on their new roles. What followed was the most defining part of the event the oath-taking. With right hands raised and voices firm, the students pledged to remain true to Carmel’s ideals, to serve with honesty, and to uphold the honour of the institution through their words and actions.

In a moment of significance, the school flag was entrusted to head boy Prishan and head girl Aaliyah, symbolising trust, unity, and direction. The school motto, ‘Ever Onward,’ resonated across the assembly as a call to action. In their addresses, Prishan spoke of service as the essence of leadership lifting others and inspiring by action. Aaliyah shared her intent to lead with responsiveness, discipline, and unity, fostering a positive and inclusive environment.

Teacher Liffin introduced the chief guest, reflecting on her many roles as an educator and beacon of service.

In her address, Kavitha Shastri praised the grace and sincerity with which the young leaders took their pledge. She reflected on her own growth, attributing her strength and values to her formative years in education. Offering practical wisdom, she shared four guiding principles for the student body:

Acquire a skill be it music, art, or sports as it nurtures self-confidence.
Respect Oneself choose nourishing food, maintain cleanliness, and dress with dignity.
Be responsible approach studies and behaviour with seriousness.
Practice discipline for it is the foundation that helps one soar.

To illustrate this, she narrated a meaningful childhood story of Swami Vivekananda. As a boy named Narendra, he once told his father that he wished to become a coachman. Disappointed, his father punished him. Narendra turned to his mother, who gently told him that if he wanted to be a coachman, he should not merely steer horses but guide people toward truth and virtue. These words stirred his soul, ultimately shaping him into the visionary Swami Vivekananda, who inspired generations.

Sr Rose Vera, principal, in her message, called this a day of pride and purpose. She reminded the leaders that the badge they wear is a symbol of trust, not a decoration. She urged them to reflect each day: “What does this badge ask of me today?” She encouraged them to listen more than they speak, act with fairness, and uplift one another with elegance and unison.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Alifya, who acknowledged the efforts of every individual who contributed to the day’s success. The event drew to a close with the National Anthem, echoing unity and respect for the nation.

The investiture ceremony stood as a shining celebration of leadership nurtured in values, grounded in service, and ever ready to move Ever Onward.
