Belthangady, June 28: In a heartbreaking incident reported from Arasinamakki near Engira, a 49-year-old man lost his life after being electrocuted while spraying pesticides in an areca nut plantation.

The deceased has been identified as Udair Krishnappa Kulal, a resident of the area. As per sources, the unfortunate incident occurred when the pesticide sprayer pole Krishnappa was using accidentally came in contact with a high-tension (HT) power line overhead.

Eyewitnesses state that Krishnappa collapsed on the spot after the shock. Local residents immediately rushed to his aid and shifted him to a private hospital in Nelyadi. However, doctors there declared him brought dead.

The incident has left the local community in shock and mourning, highlighting once again the lurking dangers faced by agricultural workers due to unsafe proximity of live electrical lines in rural farmlands.

A case has been registered and investigations are underway.
