Mangaluru, Jul 3: Yenepoya PU College, in collaboration with Yenepoya Nursing College, observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 27. The event aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a drug-free lifestyle among the youth.
The programme began with an invocation by the students of Yenepoya PU College, followed by a warm welcome address by Renita, assistant professor, Department of Mental Health Nursing. She set the tone for the event and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in addressing drug-related issues.








The dignitaries then participated in the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing awareness, hope, and enlightenment. Dr Binsha, head of the Department of Mental Health Nursing, delivered a keynote address, underlining the urgency of tackling drug abuse and the need for greater mental health awareness in society.
In his presidential address, Uzwal Rodney Menezes, principal of Yenepoya PU College, stressed the critical role of educational institutions in nurturing informed and resilient individuals capable of making positive life choices.
A highlight of the event was an engaging session titled ‘Strong Minds, Safe Choices: Counter Drugs with Resilience’, conducted by Dr Rameela Shekhar, a renowned mental health professional from Manashanthi. She focused on building mental resilience, resisting peer pressure, and making informed decisions.
Dr Viji Prasad, associate professor, Department of Mental Health Nursing, proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all those involved in making the event a success.
Adding a creative dimension to the program, the 6th-semester BSc Nursing students performed a powerful mime show depicting the dangers of drug addiction and the importance of choosing a healthier path.
The program concluded with a striking poster exhibition by the students on the theme ‘Protecting Our Future: Prevention of Drug Abuse’. The visually impactful displays left a lasting impression on all attendees.
The event was both educational and inspiring, effectively conveying the message that with awareness, resilience, and the right choices, a healthier and drug-free society is possible.
