Lalit Modi-Sushmita saga resurfaces amid London Party video buzz

London, Jul 4: Three years after he took social media by storm calling Sushmita Sen his "better half", fugitive businessman Lalit Modi is back in headlines—this time for a viral video where he is seen singing Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” with fellow fugitive Vijay Mallya at a lavish London party last weekend.

Lalit Modi, the former IPL commissioner, had stunned netizens in July 2022 when he shared pictures with Sushmita Sen, the Bollywood icon and former Miss Universe, announcing a “new beginning”. His post read, “Just back in London after a whirling global tour with families – not to mention my better half @sushmitasen47 – a new beginning, a new life finally.”

Speculation of a wedding quickly spread online, prompting Modi to clarify within hours, “Not married – just dating.” Sushmita Sen, too, shared a post with her daughters saying she was “not married… no rings” but surrounded by love.

However, the relationship drew flak from a section of social media users, with Sushmita being labelled a 'gold digger'. The Aarya actor didn’t stay silent for long, writing, “I dig deeper than Gold... and I've always (famously) preferred Diamonds!! And yes I still buy them myself!”

The speculation fizzled after Modi removed all photos with Sushmita from his Instagram and changed his bio, triggering breakup rumours. In a 2023 interview, Sen addressed the trolling: “I find the memes funny… but if you are calling someone a gold digger, at least don’t monetise it! I prefer diamonds, not gold.”

Earlier this year, Modi introduced his new partner, Rima Bouri—a long-time friend—on Valentine’s Day.

Now back in the limelight thanks to his viral karaoke moment with Mallya, Lalit Modi has once again stirred the internet, proving he’s never too far from the buzz.
