Mangaluru, Jul 16: St Agnes School (CBSE) observed the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel with solemnity and spiritual fervour on July 15, at School Block Hall 2. Rooted in deep religious tradition, the celebration paid tribute to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the revered title of Our Lady of Mount Carmel — the patroness of the Carmelite Order. Revered for her life of contemplative prayer and unwavering trust in God, Mother Mary’s legacy was honoured through prayer, reflection, and artistic expression.

The day’s celebration commenced with a solemn Holy Mass in the St Sebastian’s Church, Bendore, where prayers of gratitude and blessings were offered, invoking divine grace and spiritual renewal. Meanwhile, in the kindergarten section, the little ones presented a heart-warming program that reflected the Carmelite spirit in age-appropriate and meaningful ways.

A reverent prayer service highlighting the grace bestowed upon those who grow in divine intimacy was followed by a spectacular prayer dance that lifted the spiritual tone of the gathering. The students then offered a well-researched presentation on the history of the Carmelite Order and the significance of the scapular, enhancing the audience's understanding. This was followed by a thoughtfully enacted skit on the Brown Scapular.

Following this, Sr Letitia, KG coordinator, addressed the students with a beautiful message, comparing Carmel to a garden blooming with flowers, and emphasised the virtues of humility, faithfulness, obedience, and love as values children should embrace.

The main cultural programme, held in Block 2 Hall, began with a reflective prayer service that uplifted hearts and minds. A vibrant welcome dance set a lively and festive tone, celebrating the unity and spirit of the school community. Kaylyn Gia Martis extended a gracious welcome and introduced the distinguished chief guest, Sr Shalini, a committed educator and youth mentor. She was welcomed with a potted blossom, symbolising growth and grace.

This was followed by Cleona Saldanha’s insightful address on the spiritual significance of the feast, drawing attention to Mary’s virtues of faith, obedience, and compassion. A touching dance drama further brought to life the virtues of the Blessed Mother, inspiring deep reflection among all present.

As part of the day’s celebrations, the accomplishments of young achievers in the little hands Olympiad were formally recognised. Shanice Ellie Rebello received special commendation for securing the 5th rank at the state level. She, along with Naseema Izma Fathima (UKG A), Pournami D Bangera, Hiral Harischandra Moolya, and Zion Asher D’Souza, was awarded medals and certificates in the presence of the entire student body.

The honours were presented by the chief guest, Sr Shalini, who warmly acknowledged the children’s enthusiasm, diligence, and early academic promise. Her address offered words of spiritual guidance, encouraging the students to emulate Mary’s humility, inner strength, and unwavering trust in God.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Shannen Saldanha. The entire celebration stood as a meaningful tribute to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, leaving the gathering spiritually enriched and deeply inspired by the values of the Carmelite tradition.
