Halaguru, Jul 30: Authorities in Mandya district have imposed a complete ban on tourist entry to the popular pilgrimage and tourist destination of Muttathi, following rising water levels in the Cauvery River due to heavy rainfall in the region.

Malavalli Tahsildar SV Lokesh issued the prohibitory order after a formal request was made by Halaguru PSI Lokesh, citing safety concerns over the excess release of water from the Krishnarajasagar (KRS) reservoir and the increasing risk of flooding. The region is also known for its proximity to sensitive wildlife areas, adding to the need for precautionary measures.

The order came into effect from 6 pm on July 28 and will remain in force until further notice. Tourists and devotees have been strictly barred from entering the Muttathi area, which is not only home to a revered temple but also a favorite spot for river swimming and nature outings.

With the Cauvery River basin witnessing continuous heavy rainfall, the administration has emphasized the importance of public cooperation in adhering to safety protocols. The move is aimed at preventing any untoward incidents and ensuring both human safety and environmental conservation.

Locals and tourists have been urged to stay away from the area until the situation is declared safe by the authorities.
