Ahilyanagar, Aug 24: A 61-year-old man and his 55-year-old wife were found dead inside their house at Chasnali in Kopargaon taluka of Ahilyanagar district on Saturday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Dilip Mujmule and his wife Swati. Police suspect that Dilip smothered his wife to death before ending his own life by hanging.
According to officials, Dilip had frequent quarrels with his wife and neighbours as he suspected his wife’s character. Before his death, he allegedly wrote on the wall of his house, blaming neighbours for their deaths.
On the complaint of his married daughter, the Kopargaon taluka police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against three members of the neighbouring family.
“The incident came to light around 11 am. Dilip had locked the house from inside. Earlier in the morning, at about 6.30 am, he had an argument with neighbours. Later, he was found hanging inside the house,” inspector Sandeep Koli of Kopargaon police station said.
Neighbours, who first noticed the situation through a window, alerted the village patil and the police. When the door was broken open, the couple was found dead inside.
Police said Dilip had shifted to Chasnali four years ago and was running a tea stall, while Swati worked as an anganwadi sevika. Investigations are on.
