Ponda Municipal Council to sterilise stray dogs after bite incidents

Ponda, Aug 26: In the wake of rising cases of stray dog attacks on children and residents in Ponda, the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has announced steps to sterilise stray dogs in the town.

The move comes after four children were bitten by stray dogs at Antruj Nagar, while similar incidents were reported in Shantinagar, Khandepar and Curti. Concerned residents approached the deputy collector’s office demanding urgent measures.

PMC Chairperson Anand Naik confirmed that sterilisation work would begin this week in association with an NGO. “We will provide space to the organisation to sterilise the dogs,” Naik said.

Meanwhile, stray cattle continue to add to public woes in Ponda, with several mishaps being reported. To tackle the issue, PMC has set up a cattle pound at Bethora-Nirankal Panchayat to house and manage stray cattle.
