Panaji, Aug 28: Goa, long cherished as Indian cinema’s favourite backdrop, is set to make the process of film shooting smoother and hassle-free with the launch of a single-window online clearance system from September 1.
From the golden era of the 1960s to cult favourites like Dil Chahta Hai and Dear Zindagi, Goa has remained one of the country’s most sought-after filming destinations with its sun-kissed beaches, colonial charm, village lanes and riversides.
The new initiative, spearheaded by the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), aims to streamline the approval process for filmmakers. “We have already launched the film facilitation portal. It is an online facility where all permissions regarding film shootings in Goa can be applied for. The process will now be transparent and accessible,” said ESG vice chairperson Delilah Lobo.
Until now, producers were required to physically submit applications, often travelling across different municipalities for clearances. From September 1 onwards, all permissions can be secured through the ESG website — www.esg.co.in.
For industry stakeholders, this development comes as a long-awaited relief. Line producer Dilip Borkar, who has facilitated more than 700 film shoots in Goa since Amitabh Bachchan’s Agneepath (1990), hailed the move as a “historic step” that will save time and reduce red tape. “Earlier, one had to travel hours for municipal clearances. Now, this system will make our work much easier and encourage more filmmakers to choose Goa,” he said.
Other producers including Akash Borkar, associated with films like Radhe, Gehraiyaan, Farzi and Jr NTR’s upcoming Devara, also welcomed the decision, stating that permissions from multiple departments such as tourism and forest will now be simplified.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s government has been pushing the initiative for the past few years, and with its implementation from September 1, the coastal state hopes to further strengthen its place as a premier hub for Indian and international cinema.
