Patna, Sep 1: On the final day of the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Patna, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge praised the massive public response to the campaign led by Rahul Gandhi and Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. He said the Yatra has become a nationwide topic of discussion despite efforts by the BJP to halt it.
Kharge called Bihar “the mother of democracy” and accused the BJP, in coordination with the Election Commission, of attempting to weaken both democracy and the Constitution. He highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s earlier campaigns such as the Bharat Jodo Yatra and Jai Bapu-Jai Bhim-Jai Samvidhaan Yatra, framing the Voter Adhikar Yatra as a continuation of this democratic struggle.

The Congress chief launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of “dishonesty” and “electoral malpractice,” including vote theft in Bihar. “Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, and Jawaharlal Nehru gave us the right to vote; we must protect this right from being snatched away,” Kharge urged.
CPI national secretary Annie Raja and CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby echoed these concerns, condemning the BJP as a threat to democracy. Raja emphasized the constitutional right to vote and vowed to continue fighting against vote theft. Baby warned that the BJP’s alleged vote-rigging is an assault on the Constitution, calling for unity to defend electoral rights.
Together, the opposition leaders stressed the importance of safeguarding the voter’s right in the face of what they described as growing attempts to undermine India’s democratic foundations.
