Hyderabad, Sept 2: In a dramatic political move, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has suspended his daughter, MLC K. Kavitha, from the party with immediate effect, citing anti-party activities.
The decision, confirmed through an official statement by BRS General Secretaries T. Arvind Rao and Somu Bharat Kumar, follows Kavitha’s explosive public remarks targeting senior BRS leaders — including her own cousin and former minister T. Harish Rao, former MP J. Santosh Kumar, and ex-Rajya Sabha member Megha Krishna Reddy. The party leadership viewed her actions as damaging and unacceptable.

KCR reportedly made the decision after holding a series of internal consultations with senior party leaders. The tipping point came just hours after Kavitha returned from the US and launched a scathing attack on top party figures, accusing them of tarnishing KCR’s image and dragging him into controversy.
Her remarks coincided with Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s announcement to hand over the alleged Kaleshwaram project irregularities case to the CBI. Kavitha questioned why Harish Rao, who oversaw the Irrigation Ministry for five years, was not being held accountable. She suggested that the CBI probe into KCR was the direct result of actions by those close to him who were “colluding with contractors for personal gain.”
Kavitha said she had tolerated “years of conspiracies” and personal attacks from Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar, and expressed deep regret that her father now faced a federal probe. “As KCR’s daughter, it hurts me to see him subjected to a CBI investigation,” she said.
This isn’t the first time Kavitha has publicly clashed with the party. A leaked internal letter from three months ago had revealed her frustration, where she likened KCR to “a god surrounded by devils” and blamed party insiders for her 2019 Lok Sabha defeat in Nizamabad.
In recent months, she has been distancing herself from the party’s mainstream, focusing instead on activism through her cultural platform Telangana Jagruthi, under which she has led multiple protest programmes.
The suspension marks a deep rift within the BRS first family, and comes at a politically sensitive time as the party regroups after its recent electoral setbacks.
