Bengaluru, Sep 7: Amid the flood of skincare tips on social media, dermatologist Dr Garekar has introduced a simple “3-2-1 Skincare Rule” to help beginners cut through the confusion and build a minimal yet effective routine.
In her Instagram post, Dr Garekar said every skincare routine must begin with three non-negotiables – a cleanser, a moisturiser, and sunscreen. “These basics form the foundation of healthy skin and must be used consistently,” she explained.

She suggested adding two active ingredients – one for the morning and one for the night. Options for mornings include niacinamide, vitamin C, or hyaluronic acid, while retinoids, kojic acid, or glycolic acid can be used at night.
The final step is one ritual treatment, done weekly or monthly, such as a DIY mask, an AHA or BHA peel, or professional procedures like a HydraFacial. “Even following this much consistently is more than enough,” she said.
Dr Garekar emphasised that those already using multiple actives effectively can continue, but beginners can achieve glowing, healthy skin with this straightforward method. She also highlighted that proper application of products is as important as the products themselves.
