Mumbai, Oct 4: Actress Sonam, best known for her roles in iconic films like Tridev and Vishwatma, took a nostalgic trip down memory lane as she shared her fondest memories from her very first day on a film set. Posting a video clip on Instagram from her debut scene in the 1988 film Vijay, directed by the legendary Yash Chopra, Sonam revealed how a beachwear shoot that would make most actors anxious, turned out to be a surprisingly comfortable experience — thanks to the warmth and professionalism of the late filmmaker and her co-star, Rishi Kapoor.
Sonam’s introduction to the silver screen was through a bold beach scene, inspired by Bo Derek’s iconic run in the Hollywood film 10. The actress reflected on how Yash Chopra envisioned the scene, and how she unexpectedly found herself at ease — munching on Five Star chocolates in between takes.

“Boo hoo #gafoor. And just like that I started my journey with a bikini and a chocolate… Unabashedly. Lights, camera, sound, and action!” she wrote in her caption.
She recounted how Five Star became her "lucky charm," saying she would eat several bars during every shoot from that point forward — a ritual that began on the very first day of filming Vijay.
“I kept eating Five Star chocolate bars throughout the day. That’s how I started my love affair with Five Star chocolate… To this day, it’s my favourite.”
Sonam also praised Yash Chopra and Rishi Kapoor for the dignity and grace they brought to the set. She fondly recalled how they ensured she was taken care of, with Rishi and Yash instructing her hairstylist to be attentive after every take.
“They had so much class and dignity. My hairstylist would run to me with my dressing gown after each cut. I was made to feel extremely comfortable.”
She went on to reveal a bittersweet detail from her career — Yash Chopra had approached her again two years later for a role in Aaina, but she had to turn it down due to her early retirement from films at age 18, following her marriage. The role eventually went to Amrita Singh, who Sonam said did a “fabulous job.”
Sonam also addressed the nature of online interactions, requesting followers to engage respectfully.
“Any comments from accounts which aren’t appropriate will be blocked and reported. Kindly be mindful before commenting.”
Through her post, Sonam offered fans a rare and heartfelt glimpse into a formative moment in her acting journey — one that began with nervous excitement, chocolate bars, and the steady guidance of cinema legends.
