Udupi: IEEE Day 2025 celebrated by its student branch at SMVITM

Udupi, Oct 9: The IEEE Student Branch of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, commemorated IEEE Day 2025 with great zeal and pride. The celebration was marked by the inauguration of newly established IEEE Societies, including the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE), and the IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology (SIGHT).

The event also featured the installation ceremony of the IEEE Student Branch office bearers for the academic year 2025–26.

The chief guest, Dr Parameshachari B D, vice chair of the Membership Development Committee (MDC), IEEE Bangalore Section, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp and launched the new IEEE societies. In his address, Dr Parameshachari highlighted the importance of active engagement in IEEE activities and underscored the role of professional societies in shaping the future careers of aspiring engineers.

Dr Nagaraj Bhat, dean (Academics) at SMVITM, delivered the presidential remarks. He encouraged the students to leverage IEEE’s vast technical resources, platforms, and networking opportunities for their professional and personal growth.

In celebration of IEEE Day, the student branch organized a series of technical and fun competitions to foster creativity and teamwork among students. Over 150 students enthusiastically participated, with winners being felicitated with prizes during the event.
