New York, Oct 24: Mehul Goswami, a 39-year-old Indian-origin resident of New York, was arrested by authorities on charges of grand larceny for allegedly working a second full-time job while employed by the New York State Office of Information Technology Services.
A joint investigation by the New York State Inspector General’s Office and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office found that Goswami’s alleged moonlighting as a contractor for GlobalFoundries, a semiconductor company in Malta, from March 2022 resulted in the misuse of $50,000 in taxpayer money, according to US media reports. The probe was reportedly triggered by an anonymous email alleging that he worked for a private employer during hours he was supposed to be fulfilling state duties.

Inspector General Lucy Lang said, “Public employees are entrusted with the responsibility to serve with integrity, and Goswami’s alleged conduct represents a serious breach of that trust. Working a second, full-time job while claiming to be working for the State is an abuse of public resources, including taxpayer dollars.”
Goswami was arrested on October 15 by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office for grand larceny in the second degree, a class C felony in New York that carries a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison. He appeared before Judge James A. Fauci in Malta Town Court and was released without bail, as the charges are not considered qualifying offenses for bail under updated state law.
Lang added that her office will continue to work with law enforcement partners to ensure accountability for anyone undermining public service integrity in New York State.
