New Delhi, Oct 28: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday confirmed that batter Shreyas Iyer is in a stable condition after sustaining a spleen laceration during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25. He remains under medical observation.
Iyer suffered the injury while taking a catch to dismiss Alex Carey, after which he was immediately rushed to a Sydney hospital and admitted to the ICU.
“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding,” the BCCI said in an official statement.

“The bleeding was promptly controlled, and his condition is now stable. A repeat scan on October 28 has shown significant improvement, and he is on the road to recovery.”
The board added that its medical team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, continues to monitor his condition closely.
Initially thought to be a rib injury, scans later revealed a more serious spleen laceration. Sources confirmed to IANS that Iyer has since been moved out of the ICU and is recovering steadily.
India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav said he has been in touch with Iyer and assured fans of his improving condition.
“He is stable and recovering well. We’ve spoken over the last couple of days, and he’s been replying to messages — that’s a good sign,” Suryakumar said ahead of the T20I series against Australia.
Iyer will continue to receive treatment in Sydney before returning to India for further assessment.
