Riyadh, Nov 6: Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that he may soon call time on his illustrious career, revealing in a recent interview with British journalist Piers Morgan that retirement could come “soon.”
Currently playing for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, the 39-year-old Portuguese superstar said he has been mentally preparing for this moment for years but admitted it will be “very, very difficult” to say goodbye to the game he has loved since childhood.

“I think I will be prepared. It will be very, very difficult,” Ronaldo told Morgan on Piers Morgan Uncensored. “But I have prepared my future since I was 25, 26, 27 years old. I think I will be capable of supporting that pressure. Nothing will compare to the adrenaline you have when scoring a goal in football. But everything has a beginning and everything has an end.”
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has scored a record 952 career goals — more than any other player in football history — said he now wishes to dedicate more time to his family. “I’m going to have more time for myself, for my family, to raise my kids,” he added.
Earlier this year, Ronaldo got engaged to his longtime partner, Georgina Rodríguez. His eldest son, Cristiano Jr., has also been making waves in youth football, following in his father’s footsteps.
While Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr runs until 2027, speculation is rife that the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America could mark his final appearance on the international stage for Portugal — closing an extraordinary chapter in football history that has inspired millions across the globe.
