Kuwait City, Nov 8: A Kuwait Airways flight carrying 284 passengers to the Philippines was delayed for nearly eight hours early Friday after a sudden technical malfunction halted its departure from Kuwait International Airport.
The incident occurred around 4:24 a.m. when the aircraft experienced a brake-system fault while being moved on the tarmac. The malfunction caused minor damage to the plane’s fuselage but no injuries were reported among passengers or crew.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the issue was contained before takeoff procedures began. Emergency and technical teams immediately secured the area, conducted inspections, and confirmed that the incident was minor but warranted full safety checks.

Passengers were escorted back to the terminal as engineers evaluated the aircraft. After determining that the plane required further assessment, authorities arranged for a replacement aircraft, which departed for Manila at 12:20 pm.
A DGCA spokesperson said all actions were taken in line with international aviation safety standards, stressing that the safety of passengers remained the top priority.
Though such ground-handling malfunctions are rare, aviation officials confirmed that a detailed technical review is underway to determine the cause of the brake failure.
