Kadaba, Nov 19: Though his right leg has a metal rod and he cannot walk, relying instead on a wheel cycle for mobility, his determination remains unshakable. Driven by the concern that no one should face inconvenience near his house, he repairs the edges of the road in front of his home — all by himself.
By levelling the eroded edges of the state highway with soil, 63-year-old Sheenappa demonstrates that physical disability may limit the body but not the strength of the mind. His heart remains soft and sensitive to people’s difficulties, even as his resolve stays firm as steel.

Sheenappa, a resident of Kallaje in Yenekallu village of Kadaba taluk, suffered a fall from a tree in 2013, resulting in a fractured leg and the insertion of a rod in his right leg. The Subramanya–Jalsoor state highway passes close to his house. The stretch near his residence is located at a curve, where several minor accidents have occurred over the years.
The edges of the tar road near his house often erode, making the roadside unsafe. Every year, during the Kukke fair season, Sheenappa undertakes voluntary work, filling the edges with soil to repair the damaged portions. He covers nearly 200 metres of the roadside with soil and also clears bushes and shrubs along the highway.
Locals express gratitude for his selfless service done entirely by himself. For Sheenappa, their appreciation is his greatest reward, giving him immense satisfaction and peace of mind.
