Jaismine Lamboria leads India’s charge into World Boxing Cup finals

Daijiworld Media Network - Greater Noida

Greater Noida, Nov 19: World champion Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) showcased her class and composure to sail into the final of the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025, outshining Kazakhstan’s Ulzhan Sarsenbek with a dominant 5–0 victory at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex on Wednesday. Sarsenbek, a former Asian Youth champion, had no answers to Jaismine’s precision and control.

Jaismine established her rhythm early, unleashing smooth combinations and maintaining airtight defence through sharp blocks, slips, and measured footwork. Even a late surge from her Kazakh opponent couldn’t shake her momentum, as she closed out a flawless win. She now prepares for a high-voltage title bout against Paris Olympic medalist Wu-Shih Yi of Chinese Taipei, one of the most accomplished boxers in the division.

India’s march into the finals continued with impressive performances from Pawan Bartwal (55kg) and Jadumani Singh (50kg), who both secured unanimous victories. Pawan, buoyed by his breakthrough run, recovered from a tight opening round to dominate England’s Ellis Trowbridge with speed, sharp counterpunching, and superior timing. Jadumani overwhelmed Australia’s Omer Izaz—an Astana World Cup medalist—through high pressure, crisp hooks, and smart movement that kept the taller boxer on the back foot throughout the bout.

Earlier in the day, Jugnoo (85kg) exited the tournament following a 5–0 defeat, while Neeraj Phogat (65kg) delivered a brave, tactical fight against Olympic medalist Chen Nien-Chin before narrowly losing by a 3–2 split decision.

A total of 10 Indian boxers have already booked their spots in Thursday’s finals, with the possibility of more joining after Session 7.

Among the key upcoming bouts:

• Preeti (54kg) vs. Italy’s Sirine Carrabi, a World Championships silver and bronze medallist
• Minakshi (48kg) vs. Ukraine’s Fozilona Farzova
• Parveen (63kg) vs. Japan’s Ayaka Taguchi
• Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) vs. Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova
• Nupur (80+kg) vs. Uzbekistan’s Sotimboeva Oltinoy
• Pooja (80kg) vs. Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska, reigning World Champion

In the men’s finals lineup:

• Ankush Phangal (80kg) faces England’s Shittu Oladimeji, the 2024 World Boxing Cup champion
• Narender Berwal (90+kg) meets Uzbekistan’s knockout specialist Khalimjon Mamasoliev
• Abhinash Jamwal (60kg) takes on Japan’s Shion Nishiyama, a seasoned international competitor

With strong momentum and multiple contenders across weight categories, India is poised for a standout finish at the World Boxing Cup Finals.
