Mumbai, Dec 2: A pregnant woman went into sudden labour while walking through the Dongri area on Saturday, leading to an emergency delivery on the roadside with the timely intervention of the police.
The woman, identified as 36-year-old Mala Nadar, a resident of Dharavi, was walking with her husband when she experienced severe abdominal pain and collapsed on the footpath. Seeing her in distress, locals immediately alerted the Dongri Police.

Police teams rushed to the spot in two vehicles. On learning that Mala was unable to walk and that her labour pains had intensified, the officers realised shifting her could be risky.
Constable Khadse quickly arranged bedsheets and cloths, while women constables formed a human shield to provide privacy. Within moments, Mala delivered her baby on the spot.
The police, with help from local women, carefully wrapped the newborn and the mother in cloth and shifted them into the police vehicle. They were immediately taken to JJ Hospital, where doctors cut the umbilical cord and began medical care.
Doctors later confirmed that both the mother and the newborn were safe, bringing immense relief to the police personnel who had acted swiftly.
According to police, their timely response ensured that the mother and child received the necessary medical attention without delay.
