Bantwal, Dec 3: World disability day was observed on Wednesday, December 3 at Dr B R Ambedkar Bhavan, B C Road, under the joint aegis of Vikaasam Seva Foundation, the education department, the office of the block education officer, the block resource centre Bantwal taluk, and Saksham Dakshina Kannada district.
The programme was inaugurated by Revathi Sanil of Sanjeevini Divine Holistic Wellness Centre, Mangaluru. In her address, she said that society today needs value-based education and institutions like Vikaasam, which recognise everyone with equality.


Senior journalist Malar Jayaram Rai presided over the event and said that diversity in the world is the will of God. “Children with disabilities do not harbour jealousy; they possess pure love. It is our good fortune to mingle with them. All children have pure minds, and we must engage with them cooperatively,” he said.
Malathi K, in-charge block education officer, said that the government is providing special facilities for children with disabilities and added that the process of obtaining the UDID card should be made simpler.
Coordinator Vidyakumari; Lakshmikant Nayak Kodmann, deputy general secretary of Canara Bank Employees’ Association; Harish Prabhu, secretary of Saksham Dakshina Kannada district; BC Road entrepreneur Narayan Perne; Dr Ashwini, medical officer of the urban primary health centre; Noonnayya Naik, taluk officer of Akshara Dasoha; education coordinator Ramananda Noojippady; Suresh, organisational secretary of Seva Bharati Karnataka; Sunil Kulkarni, trustee of Bharat Foundation; Harish Jogi, co-founder of Vikaasam Seva Foundation and UNICEF state coordinator; and Gopal G S, co-founder of Vikaasam Seva Foundation, were present.
Ganesh Bhat Varanasi, co-founder of Vikaasam, welcomed the gathering. Co-founder Dharmaprasad Rai proposed the vote of thanks. Surekha Yalavar of the education resource centre compered the programme.
On the occasion, supportive materials were distributed to children with disabilities who participated.
