Udupi, Dec 6: The South Canara District Central Co-operative (SCDCC) Bank has donated a Bolero jeep to the Udupi district police.

The vehicle was officially handed over at a ceremony held at the Udupi district superintendent of police (SP) office on December 6. Bank president Dr M N Rajendra Kumar flagged off the new vehicle and presented the keys to SP Hariram Shankar.

With several police vehicles completing over 15 years of service and some others under repair, the department had been facing operational difficulties. Responding to a request made under the bank’s CSR fund, SCDCC Bank provided the vehicle to support the department. The police expressed their gratitude by felicitating the bank president. The bank, in turn, presented a memento to the police department.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajendra Kumar noted that among government departments, the police face numerous challenges in their line of duty. Maintaining law and order is a major responsibility, he said. “When the Dakshina Kannada district police approached us, our bank responded by providing a vehicle. We were equally happy to accept Udupi’s request,” he added.
