Udupi, Dec 8: “When members of a community come together, organise themselves, and use their individual talents for the progress of the community, it demonstrates true leadership,” said Dr Peter Machado, archbishop of Bengaluru.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Udupi diocese-level Suveechara Chintana–Manthana (Thought & Reflection) team at Kakunje Anugraha Pastoral Centre on Sunday.
Bishop Machado noted that people serving in various fields possess diverse talents. Bringing such talents onto a common platform and channeling them towards constructive ideas and concrete action will ensure the growth of every member of the community. He added that similar reflection teams comprising individuals serving in different sectors are being formed at the provincial level, and the Udupi Diocese has established its team with exemplary preparation. “In the coming days, I hope this team will deliver remarkable service through meaningful initiatives,” he said.

Presiding over the event, the bishop of Udupi diocese, Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, said that leadership should not rely only on clergy. “When laypeople come forward to lead, initiatives gain greater strength and significance,” he remarked, wishing the diocesan team every success in its future activities.
Roy Castelino, president of the Karnataka Regional Chintana–Manthana Team, delivered the keynote address and explained the team’s action plans.
The Suveechara Chintana–Manthana team comprises representatives from diverse fields such as media, medical, legal, nursing, agriculture, entrepreneurship, politics, arts, and theatre.
Monsignor Ferdinand Gonsalves welcomed the gathering. Dr Gerald Pinto, director of the Laity Commission, proposed the vote of thanks. Fr Vincent Crasta, secretary of the Education Commission, led the prayer service, and Fr Denis D’Sa, PRO, compered the programme.
