Alwar, Dec 15: From a small village in Rajasthan to the top ranks of the Union Public Service Commission examination, Utkarsh Yadav’s journey stands as a testament to perseverance, discipline and sustained effort.

Utkarsh Yadav, a native of Hamindpur village in Behror taluk of Alwar district, has secured All India Rank 32 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. He is the younger brother of Devendra Yadav, a 2016-batch IAS officer who is presently serving as district magistrate of Dausa district.

Born into a modest family, Utkarsh’s father Dayaram Yadav works with Indian Railways. Despite limited resources, education remained a priority at home, laying the foundation for his academic success.

Utkarsh completed his graduation in computer science engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. Though equipped for a lucrative technical career, he chose the demanding path of civil services, inspired by a desire to serve the public.

He began preparing for the UPSC examination in 2021, initially studying from home before shifting to New Delhi to pursue focused preparation. He opted for anthropology as his optional subject.

Like many aspirants, his journey was marked by setbacks. In his first attempt, he cleared the preliminary examination but could not progress beyond the mains. His second attempt in 2023 took him to the interview stage, but he narrowly missed the final selection. Undeterred, Utkarsh returned stronger in his third attempt, eventually securing AIR 32 in 2024.

Speaking about his preparation, Utkarsh said failures helped him identify weaknesses and fine-tune his strategy. He placed special emphasis on answer writing, consistent revision and conceptual clarity, making use of digital platforms and online lectures where necessary. During the peak preparation phase, he studied for eight to nine hours daily, increasing it to 10–12 hours closer to the examination.

Utkarsh believes that disappointment is inevitable in a long and competitive process like the civil services examination, but giving up is not an option. He stresses the importance of self-evaluation, adaptability and patience, and advises aspirants to focus on gradual improvement rather than instant results.

Though his elder brother’s career in the civil services served as motivation, Utkarsh carved his own path through independent preparation and sustained effort. His success, he says, is the outcome of discipline and consistency rather than background or privilege.

From a quiet village in Rajasthan to achieving a top rank in one of the country’s toughest examinations, Utkarsh Yadav’s story reinforces the belief that determination and hard work can overcome all limitations. As he prepares to enter public service, he carries with him the aspirations of countless young Indians striving to turn dreams into reality.
