Mangalore, Feb 21: The passersby at Car Street here were witness to an amusing sight on Tuesday February 21 at around 6 pm.

The driver of a Maruti 800, a girl, while starting the car to move out of the parking lot of Venkataramana Building at Bhavanti Street in the area, pressed on the accelerator without realizing that the car was not in reverse gear.

The car moved forward and plunged into the space between the parking lot and the basement shops. In seconds, the driver found herself staring at the ground, with the car resting at a 45-degree angle.

The car's driver, whose identity is yet not ascertained, escaped with minor injuries. She was accompanied by her mother, who too was slightly injured, sources said.

A crowd gathered at the spot, amused as well as amazed at the incident.

@ PPl cribbing that fun is being made on this and on behalf of them who might have thought like me Only after reading the article fully that the insiders nor outsiders did not die or seriously injured did i put my comment laced with humour.Someone like the one above my comment seems to think it is fashionable to join the band-wagon to comment with a soft corner for girls/women as a show of their heroism..other by putting their name in CAPS et.al.. How disgusting!!! While agreeing that there should have been Parking facilites...the fact remains is that this is mobile gadi-bidi or carelessness. For the real tragic incident on the same page of 3 kids getting drowned there are only 10 comments. Why are these preachers not there to condole the deaths?

Did not anyone relalize its also the fault of the Building designer and the contractor and the Corporation who passed the drawing with out proper safety features for the parking (ofcouse no mention of the bribes). In the US& other countries all of them will be sued and the driver can claim compenstation for not having proper safety in parking..
well this is India.. we we only critize how bad others are... without looking into the whole picture. Grow up people look around, the world is much more than what you see.. Please put your time into good use.. (Ayub and Mr.R.Shetty thanks for the sharing your thoughts)

Hey guys stop ridiculing lady drivers. In Mumbai drinking and driving is a serious offense and the offender is immediately jailed. After a late night party (with a few drinks) it is our ladies who drive us safe home.

This really is something I am not able to understand. Mistakes can happen to anyone may it be male or female. The main thing which hurt's in the comment's is people taking the pleasure of someones misfortune, some even felt the comment's to be entertaining what a educated and mutured Society. Even racing driver's meet with accident's.

For the one who have commented in a negative manner, next time when you or your near ones meet with a accident please place such comment's and enjoy yourselves. Its good no one was hurt, I would advise the driver's to be more carefull while using the Vehicle.

I take this incident very seriously . Although such accidents could happen to anyone of us ,this incident shows us the the total lack of regard for health and safety in India. What needs to be done is to learn from mistakes . This is both for the driver and authorities.

Driver should be more careful in future and authorities should erect bariers. As long as we learn from our mistakes it is fine .Let us hope something good comes out this incident. It would not have been pleasant had there been a pedestrian walking in front of the shop at the time.

First of all " Thank God" that both mother n daughter in the car are safe. I hope both ladies will recover soon from the trauma that they have undergone.
It looks like we just need to comment for the sake of it? Mistakes and accidents happen with anybody & at a time when we expect it the least.
What makes men think that Women are bad drivers & men are better, by and large? Women are far better at times in driving than men, women are better rules abiding drivers than men. So critising this lady driver is unjustified, I think.
Ajith, Mangalore, please read incident carefully before commenting, it says a lady with her mother were in the car, not a guy? Please dont comment without verifying facts.
Come on men, we women need to be treated with dignity and not talk loose about women. They are after all mothers, daughters, daughetrs in law, sisters, wives of men in society & I expect that due respect is given to women and refrain yourself from commenting anything that comes to your mind...!!

although it was a mistake, I dont blame a driver completely for this mishap. It is actually a small mistake which happens very often with most of the drivers.
What i actually feel is the builders should make sure that such incidents doesnt occur at their premise by constructing a half feet wall or by steel pipe. Others mistake should not result in ending someone else's life or injuring them. I firmly feel builders should be punished for this developements

Your are the most foolish guy.You dummy, the driver was a female and was accompanied by her mother. May be you were on the reverse gear walking on the road. Why make comments without knowing the facts. The girl driver was lucky that she did not press the accelerator hard otherwise it would have been serious. I know there should be a barrier at the end as a safety measure. I know many years back four nurses in US got killed, on the spot as they were trying to move their car from the fourth floor parking lot and instead of reversing the car the driver put it on drive and the car came straight down the fourth floor killing all the four occupants even though the parking lot had a steel barrier. Good pictures by Spoorthi Ullal.

Why nobody pointing out the negligence of building promoters...!!! they should have constructed a hurdle or mini wall [of at least 1/2 foot] to protect these type of accidents. they should be fined for this accident....!!! just imagine if somebody was there at the spot..!! city corporation people may be busy in catching poor hawkers in roadside.

At least after seeing this incident, our City Corporation and builders will install crash barriers at such locations. Luckily at the time of accident no one at the basement shop otherwise there would have been major injuries to the persons /fatality. Our people representatives appears to be too busy to notice such things!!!

Its an accident. Nothing more nothing less. Dont pass unwanted comments. Just imagine if the driver was your own sister, wife and mother, you would not have passed such low comments.

Is it the birth right of men to drive vehicles and make accidents?? Come on.. Be sensible and have a big heart.
